What is Tuina Massage?
Tuina massage is a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine that addresses specific patterns of disharmony in the body, along with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, is one of the main components of Traditional Chinese Medicine. As such, Tuina can be used to treat specific areas, or it can be used to improve the overall Qi or energy flow throughout the body.
How does Tuina work?
Acupuncture involves releasing and connecting energy at the meridians throughout the body via the use of tiny needles. Similarly, Tuina, which means “pushing and grasping,” addresses the same points using manual stimulation.
Tuina rectifies anatomical abnormalities of both inner and outer surfaces by altering the energy levels of the biological system and adjusting the bio-information of the body.Tuina achieves these goals through different type of hand-on manipulation and stretch techniques. Patients shall feel comfortable and relaxed during the treatment.
Tuina massages can be similar to Western massage modalities
Tuina massage sessions usually last been thirty minutes and one hour, and normally take place on a massage table. Tui Na is intended to be both relaxing and invigorating. Some techniques and strokes used in Tui Na are much like those used in a relaxing Swedish massage, such as gliding, kneading, rocking, pulling, friction, and rolling.
Tui Na massage differs from Western massage in other ways
Because it is based on Chinese medicine, Tuina is also quite different from Western massage therapy. Unlike Western massage techniques, Tuina goes beyond the muscles, bones, and joints to work with the body on a deeper, energetic level. Tuina practitioners intend to sense the energy of the client with their hands, and affect the flow and distribution of that energy during the session. Tuina massage is often used in concert with other TCM therapies including acupuncture, Chinese herbal remedies, moxibustion, and cupping.
