In the past 20 years, a total number of 860 research articles have published regarding to the acupuncture treatment for postoperative pain.

Statistically, articles on acupuncture therapy for postoperative pain mainly came from 53 countries. With USA, Peoples R China, South Korea, Germany, and Brazil as the five countries with the highest contribution to the number of research articles.

Conclusion: The field of acupuncture therapy for postoperative pain is currently in a period of high growth. China and the USA have made the largest contribution to the volume of research publications.


Electroacupuncture and auricular acupuncture (therapeutic techniques), low back surgery (types of surgery), and “postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting” are research hot spots in this field.


Acupuncture treatments becoming one of the major options for improving of postoperative life quality.
